Albiano, located on the right side of the river Magra, is an ancient village linked to the control of the Via Francigena on the current border with Liguria. Mentioned for the first time in 1256, it was the seat of a bishop’s castle, now incorporated into the walls of the village. Originally part of the Malaspinian territory, it joined the Republic of Florence in the fifteenth century. Its monuments include the church of San Martino Vescovo, dating from the 18th century, with a separate bell tower, and the oratory of Sant'Antonio Abate, dating back to the 16th century. In June, the medieval re-enactment "Albiano 1266" and, in December, the living Nativity scene help to preserve and celebrate the history of the ancient village.
