Bagnone

Bagnone, a small town located in the upper Lunigiana, is nestled between the streams and the peaks of the Tuscan Emilian Apennines. The name of the village derives from the stream that flowed near the castle, the original nucleus of the settlement that still retains its medieval character. Mentioned for the first time in a document of 963, Bagnone became the seat of the vicariate under the rule of Florence in the fifteenth century and developed along the stream, with a mercatale village originally called Gutula. Bagnone, located in the homonymous valley, is an excellent starting point for exploring the villages and the surrounding nature. Currently, the natural and cultural beauties are protected by the Natural and Cultural Park of the Bagnone Valley, located in the Museum Archivio della Memoria.

Nearby is worth a visit the charming village of Treschietto for the imposing ruins of the castle that rise overlooking the ravine. Another unmissable attraction in this area is Castiglione del Terziere, the ancient seat of the Florentine Captaincy, brought back to life by Loris Jacopo Bononi.
