In the heart of Fivizzano, the Complex of Augustinians, founded in 1392 by Fra Giacomo da Montalcino at the request of Nicolò Malaspina, is an emblem of the town’s history. As a religious and cultural landmark, the convent was suppressed in 1786, assuming different roles over the centuries, including women’s conservatory and cloistered monastery.
The Civic Library
Home to over 30,000 books, the Library boasts incunabula and ancient volumes from the fifteenth-sixteenth century, thanks also to Jacopo da Fivizzano, pioneer of printing with movable characters.
Meteo-Museo Edmondo Bernacca
Unique in its kind, the museum celebrates Edmondo Bernacca, Italian meteorologist, displaying memorabilia and instruments. Bernacca was a pioneer in the dissemination of meteorology and in raising awareness on climate issues.
Council Hall and Museum of Sacred Art
The building houses the Council Hall and the Museum of Sacred Art, located in the Church of San Giovanni of the fourteenth century. Works of art and treasures, such as the burial of Fra Leonardo Valazzana, enrich the space.
The Cloister
The ancient cloister, decorated with seventeenth-century frescoes by Michele Angelo di Fivizzano, depicts the life of Saint Augustine. Restored in the last century, the frescoes add charm to the Ex Convento degli Agostiniani, offering an experience that combines history, art and culture.
