The Fortress of Brunella, located on the hill overlooking the village of Aulla, represents a defensive Renaissance architecture, with possible origins dating back to the thirteenth century and various changes over time. The fortress, among the most impressive in Lunigiana, has had a strategic role in controlling the main routes and passes of the Apennines. Acquired by the Italian State in 1977, it is now owned by the Municipality of Aulla and houses the Museum of Natural History of Lunigiana, which tells the story and the transformations of the territory.
