Fosdinovo

Fosdinovo, Orange Flag village of the Italian Touring Club, is home to the majestic Malaspina Castle, built in the thirteenth century. The Parish Church of San Remigio, dating from the thirteenth century, and the Oratory of the Compagnia dei Bianchi, with Baroque facade and marble altars, enrich the religious heritage. Nearby, the fortified village of Ponzanello, founded in the twelfth century, has a wall with three portals of access well preserved. The strategic position suggests the importance of this settlement in the control of access to the Tyrrhenian coast.

The surrounding area offers numerous hiking or mountain bike trails, immersed in the lush nature of the surrounding mountains. An interesting route along the Via Francigena Toscana leads to Aulla, passing through the castle of Ponzanello, the village of Vecchietto and the charming village of Bibola. Along this route, there is also the interesting Audiovisual Museum of the Resistance, touching testimony of the dramatic events of the Second World War that marked this region. Fosdinovo, with its combination of historical heritage and unspoilt nature, is a fascinating and multifaceted destination, ideal for explorers and history enthusiasts.
