The wonderful Valle Oscura bridge, located just outside Groppodalosio, a hamlet of Pontremoli along the Via Francigena, guarantees the crossing of the river Magra since 1574 . Immersed in a landscape characterized by chestnut groves and terraces, the bridge has a unique, remarkably pronounced arch of 16 meters, which has defied time and floods, remaining an icon of the area.
The bridge connects Groppodalosio to Casalina through the current route of the Via Francigena. To reach it easily, you can start from Casalina, where you can get there by car and then follow a paved path that leads to the bridge. The route from Casalina to the bridge takes about 5 minutes on foot.
To admire the beauty of the Valle Oscura bridge, you can also descend into the river bed near the bridge, being careful as the rocks can be slippery, to enjoy the cool waters of the Magra in a breathtaking place.
