The medieval village of Pallerone stands as a historic jewel, on the banks of the Aulella stream, in the heart of Lunigiana. Strategically located between the Abbey of San Caprasio di Aulla and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, this picturesque village offers a real journey through time.
The origins of the village
The Verdentro, an ancient castrum, contains many legends, including that of Palero, the first legendary inhabitant. The walls and the castle, transformed by Alderano Malaspina in the seventeenth century, testify to the lasting influence of the Malaspina family, who dominated Pallerone from 1275.
The "renovation" of Alderano
The urban evolution led by Alderano led to the transfer of the fief from Olivola to Pallerone, transforming the castle into a noble residence. The French Revolution marked a tumultuous period, but the Malaspina family retained control until the abolition of the fiefs in 1811.
