The village of Ponticello, developed between the 14th and 15th centuries along the Via Francigena, is one of the best preserved medieval towns in the area.
Accessible through the oratory dedicated to Saints Rocco and Bernardo, the village has a stone architecture with numerous squares, courtyards and covered passages, including pointed, round and barrel arches.
The characteristic tower-houses were originally fortified buildings with entrance on the first floor and rooms developed in the upper floors.
The name of the village could derive from an ancient bridge over the river Oriolo, and although this and the river no longer exist.
Ponticello is reborn thanks to initiatives such as the event "I Mestieri nel Borgo", which celebrates ancient crafts and preserves the history of the place.
