In the small village of Regnano, in the municipality of Casola in Lunigiana, you can have a unique experience discovering the traditions and culture of this small town.
Guided by the Compagnia del Guiterno you will stroll through the streets of the village, visit the chestnut groves, the lit dryer that with its smoke is drying the chestnuts so they can then be ground in the stone mill, and Fabio's bakery where he lovingly churns out Marocca, the ancient chestnut bread baked in a wood-fired oven with natural leavening, every day. A product to be protected, so much so that it has become a Slow Food Presidium.
You can then taste all the traditional dishes made with chestnut flour: cian, tagliatelle, desserts and polenta, an ancient and poor mountain dish that is eaten here as a single dish with liver, cod or ricotta cheese.
You will also be able to watch the reenactment of chestnut threshing, to free them from the husk (the chaff) before taking them to the mill.
An unexpected experience that will make you reflect on the role of the chestnut in the rural mountain economy.
